New Ventures...

As we move forward in this process of getting to Peru as missionaries, we were informed that DH needed to get some more Bible training in order to be in a leadership position if the Lord continues to direct him in that way. So... as of this coming Monday, he will officially be enrolled in his first class towards getting his master's degree from Liberty University online! It's very exciting for him... and I'm glad he gets to go back to school. Both of us enjoyed college and it's been a long time since we did "constructive learning".

It's now about "reorganizing" our time in the evenings so that he can get all of the work done that he needs to do. We put DD #1 to bed around 8 o'clock and DD #2 usually sleeps or just "relaxes" until her 10 o'clock feeding and bedtime. DH is going to designate those 2 hours to devote his time to reading the texts and completeing his assignments. As long as we get DD #1 down for bed, those 2 hours are no problem for him to use. We only have issues with where he does his reading. Right now, he's been reading in the kitchen so he's not distracted with the tv or DD #2 being fussy. I wish we had a whole other floor or room for him to set up a study area... he'll have to make do with the table for now!

I'm also trying to "reorganize" my days with the girls. DD #1 is getting to the point where she NEEDS structure in her day and direction in her activities. Oftentimes I find her wandering aimlessly (or getting into two-year-old trouble) if I'm not on the floor playing with her. DH and I decided to purchase the Hands on Homeschooling 2 year old curriculum to give us some ideas of activities and goals for DD #1 to work on in her days. So... here's my proposed idea list for DD #1's mornings:

Daily Schedule Ideas

  • 7:30-8 Up, dressed, and breakfast
  • 8-8:30 Cleanup and morning chores (kitchen, tidy rooms)
  • 8:30-9 Playroom time (DD #2 is still awake)
  • 9-9:30 Learning time (DD #2 naptime)
  • 9:30-10 Daily chore (I'll post on that later)
  • 10-10:30 Play or reading time (This is usually DD #2 eating time)
  • 10:30-11 Another learning block (we have some educational games she likes to play) or outside time with Mommy and DD#2
  • 11:30-12 Lunch
  • 12-12:30 Cleanup and quiet play before nap (sometimes we watch a Praise Baby dvd)
  • 12:30-1 Nap prep and reading before naptime
  • 1-3 Naptime (i.e. - Mommy time! DD #2 eats in here again somewhere)
  • 3:30-4 Snack time and wake-up time (DD#1 wakes up slowly)
  • 4-4:30 Cleanup and dinner prep before Daddy comes home
  • 4:30-5:30 Outside with Daddy while Mommy goes to Curves
  • 5:30-6:30 Dinner and cleanup
  • 6:30-7:30 Outside again with Daddy
  • 7:30-8 Bedtime prep and reading before lights out at 8

Obviously, this won't go so smoothly or routinely every day. With a nursing infant, we're bound by the laws of the feeding schedule. Some days (many days right now) we are crabby and unable to let Mommy get her chores done (2 year-olds + cleaning solutions = danger). It's just nice to get it written down so I can sit back and find a "routine" in the sometimes long days with my girls!
